Welwyn v East Coast

With the 2008/9 season fast approaching The East Coast Cartel played in  their first since the March. Pitted against Welwyn Warriors a depleted East Coast team battled hard in the afternoon sun to come away with a respectable result.

Last years East Division 1 winners Welwyn fielded a lively side contain a mixture of Premiership and Division 2 players. The game began at a frantic pace with Welwyn winning the first face off. However an almost comedic error saw the Welwyn ball winner sprint towards his own goal with the ball, before realising he was travelling in the wrong direction. East Coast capitalised on the early mistake but stripping the player of the ball before midfielder Terence Devanne scooped up the loose ground balls and fired home with his signature 'wormburner'.

Welwyn begain to domiate the position throughout the next quarter but looked suspect on fast breaks. Halfway through the first quarter Welwyn equalised and begain to control the match. East Coast dug deep and eventually pulled out a 3-1 lead, before Welwyn really begain to settle into their rhythm.

The game remained close with a number of good chances for each side. East Coast failed to capitalise on a number of man up plays, which saw Welwyn break and take the lead.

Towards the end tiredness began to kick in, and although East Coast pulled a goal back, it was too late to save the game.

Final score Welwyn 8 - 5 East Coast.
